Hiring at ChatCut: Our Work Style and Culture

At ChatCut, we don’t believe in traditional corporate hierarchies or micromanagement. We’re building something different—a company where every person is a leader in their own domain.

We’re a Company of Leaders

Each person at ChatCut—whether an engineer, marketer, or designer—is a manager of themselves. We don’t have people looking over your shoulder or asking for hourly updates. You own your work, you set your standards, and you deliver results.

This isn’t about being hands-off. It’s about hiring people who don’t need to be managed because they manage themselves better than anyone else could.

Visibility and Communication

You update proactively in our internal communication channels where everyone can see what everyone is doing. This isn’t about surveillance—it’s about transparency and collaboration.

You’re free to jump in and help others. See someone struggling with something you know well? Jump in. Need help with something? Ask. We work as a team of experts, not isolated individuals.

To work at ChatCut, you have to be an excellent communicator. This is non-negotiable.

Ownership and Standards

You take ownership of your work. You have opinions and standards. You have to want to do good work—not because someone is watching, but because that’s who you are.

We’re here to build a good product. We’re here because we want to work with exceptional people building something exceptional.

We don’t take on people who treat assignments as homework, waiting for someone else to test their work and tell them what to do next. If that’s your style, we’re not a good fit.

Our Tech Stack

We build with modern, proven technologies that let us move fast without breaking things:

  • Frontend: React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS

  • Backend: Supabase (PostgreSQL, Auth, Real-time)

  • Video Processing: FFmpeg, WebAssembly

  • AI/ML: Large Language Models, Custom transcript processing

  • Infrastructure: Vercel, AWS S3

We choose tools that solve real problems, not tools that look good on a resume.

How We Hire

We don’t believe in lengthy interview processes with multiple rounds and take-home assignments that waste everyone’s time.

If you pass the first interview with COO Alima Strickland (we keep it under 15 minutes), you’ll be asked to come to our office to work with us for a full day, with a full day’s pay.

If it works, you get hired on the spot. If it doesn’t work, it should be obvious to both of us, and no hard feelings on either side.

This approach tells us everything we need to know:

  • Can you work with our team?

  • Do you solve problems the way we solve problems?

  • Do you communicate the way we communicate?

  • Can you own your work?

A day of real work tells us more than months of interviews ever could.

We’re Hiring

We’re looking for exceptional people to join our team. Here are some positions we’re actively hiring for:

  • Senior Frontend Engineer - Help us build the most intuitive video editing interface ever created

  • AI/ML Engineer - Work on transcript processing, natural language understanding, and video intelligence

  • Full-Stack Engineer - Bridge our frontend and backend systems, work on real-time collaboration features

These are the roles our product most desperately needs right now. If you’re interested, reach out.

Conclusion

We’re building ChatCut to change how people edit video. To do that, we need people who don’t just want a job—we need people who want to build something that matters.

If this sounds like the kind of place you want to work, we want to hear from you.
